Safeguarding Workers' Rights in the Saudi labor System

The labor system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia places significant emphasis on protecting workers' rights and ensuring a fair and stable work environment. Among the tools provided by the system to achieve this goal is Article 94, which addresses the available procedures in case of unjust deduction from the worker's wages or delay in payment.

Under Article 94, the worker, their representative, or the competent labor office director is granted the right to submit a request to the Labor Disputes Settlement Committee in case of unjust deduction from the worker's wages without their written consent, or if the employer delays payment within the specified period without valid justification. The committee takes necessary measures to secure the worker's rights, whether by refunding the deducted amounts without justification or by paying the delayed wages.

Additionally, the article allows the competent committee to impose fines on the employer if it is proven that they have deducted amounts or delayed wage payments without justification, with the fine not exceeding double the value of the deduction or the delayed wages.

Article 94 of the Saudi labor system reflects the spirit of social justice and the state's commitment to providing a stable and fair work environment for workers. Protecting workers' rights and ensuring the fulfillment of their livelihood needs is a fundamental basis for achieving sustainable development and social stability in societies. Therefore, the activation and enforcement of Article 94 strengthens the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's position as a country that cares about workers' rights and is committed to promoting social justice.
