Excise Tax: Compliance and Electronic Filing Guide

The Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority has urged establishments subject to excise tax to submit their tax returns for the past two months, January and February, by the fifteenth of March at the latest.

The authority has encouraged establishments to expedite the submission of their returns through the website (zatca.gov.sa) to avoid the penalty for late submission, which amounts to 5% of the tax value for each 30-day delay in filing the return.

"Zakat, Tax, and Customs" called on businesses interested in obtaining more information about excise tax to contact them through the unified contact center number (19993), which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, or via the "Ask Zakat, Tax, and Customs" account on the platform (@Zatca_Care), or through email ([email protected]), or through instant messaging on the authority's website (zatca.gov.sa).

Excise tax is one of the current tax systems in the Kingdom, imposed on goods with negative effects on public health or the environment at varying rates. These include carbonated beverages, energy drinks, sweetened beverages, tobacco, and its derivatives.
